Thinking About God

Psalms 113:3: From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD*S name is to be praised.

Isaiah 26:3: Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Philippians 4:8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

How often do we think about God? How long do we think about Him? How highly do we think of Him? How often do we forget about Him? How long do we forget about Him? How many of His perfections do we forget about? The more we think of Him and the more highly we think of Him the more we will have perfect peace. He is worth thinking about. He is worth worshipping.

God is true, honest, just, pure, lovely, worthy of good report, virtuous and praiseworthy. When individuals think He is not those things they will not have perfect peace. Forgetting His wonderful attributes gets about the same result as forgetting about Him. It is like forgetting about a part of Him.

2 Peter 1:2: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

John 17:3: And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

Just knowing ABOUT Him doesn*t get it done. If we just know about Him we will just know about perfect peace. We must know Him personally and experience Him personally. Then we can personally experience perfect peace. What we know of Him personally must match up with all that the Bible teaches about Him. I have heard it said of some individuals that they know a lot of things that aren*t so. Thinking things about God that are not true or forgetting the things about Him that are true can cause worry and can take away our peace of mind. Frequent prayer and depending upon Him also give us peace.

Philippians 4:6-7: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:7: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Just remembering that He cares for me when I can remember nothing else brings peace. As insignificant as I am in my own eyes He loves even me. Charles Weigle*s song:

I would love to tell you what I think of Jesus, Since I found in Him a friend so strong and true.
I would tell you how He changed my life completely; He did something no other friend could do.

Chorus: No one ever cared for me like Jesus; There*s no other friend so kind as He.
No one else could take the sin and darkness from me; O how much He cares for me.

All my life was full of sin when Jesus found me; All my heart was full of misery and woe,
Jesus placed His strong and loving arms about me. And He led me in the way I ought to go.

Every day He comes to me with new assurance. More and more I understand His words of love.
But I*ll never know just why He came to save me, till someday I see His blessed face above.
